The automatic ligature shape selection is not always right.

This needs a set of specific examples. We also need to distinguish between several types of error:

1) The version selected is wrong — this has to be fixed;
2) The version selected is correct, but rare — this should be fixed or, perhaps, settled by a set of preferences;
3) The ligature itself is rare or impossible (a longer ligature is being typed) — this can safely be ignored, but it might be desirable to indicate its wrongness somehow.
